Gautham Karthik’s ‘August 16, 1947’ trailer unveils India’s darkest independence secret

22nd March, Mumbai: The producers of the upcoming Tamil period drama, August 16, 1947, have released an exciting trailer on 22 march.  The film stars Gautham Karthik and is written and directed by NS Ponkumar. AR Murugadoss is the producer of the movie.

The upcoming movie is based in the village of Sangadu, which is known as the “capital of slavery,” and takes place on the day before India’s independence in 1947. The trailer opens with a disturbing quote from the film’s antagonist, a British leader, who states, “You don’t need rest to forget the pain, you can simply inflict more pain.” The movie narrates the harrowing and poignant tale of how the British concealed information about Indian independence from the village and how the residents resisted and achieved their liberation.

A.R. Murugadoss, Om Prakash Bhatt, and Narsiram Choudhary are the producers, with Aditya Joshi as the co-producer, of the upcoming film, which is written and directed by NS Ponkumar. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on April 7th and will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, and English languages.

Other than Gautham Karthik, the cast of the movie includes Pugazh, Revathy Sharma, Richard Ashton, and Jason Shah, while Sean Roldan has created the film’s musical score. August 16, 1947 has been slated for release on April 7, 2023.
