2nd July 2023,Mumbai: Unending rumours have been swirling for months about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra. However, all of the claimed knowledge about the films ends there, at the level of supposition.
Regarding his intentions for the adaptation of the popular 1952 film Baiju Bawra, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has not spoken to anyone, I repeat, anyone. So where are all these speculative pieces about the movie being pitched coming from?
The following are the known facts about Baiju Bawra: Yes, the cast is set, with Alia Bhatt playing the love interest and Ranveer Singh playing the lead character. Additionally, it is true that SLB has prepared 5–6 tracks and has been working on the music for a considerable amount of time.
Baiju Bawra, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, would contain 11–12 songs. They wouldn’t be entirely based on Hindustani classical music, unlike the 1952 version’s original composition by Naushad.
“How can I ever hope to compose songs like the great Naushad Saab did in Baiju Bawra, like Mann tarpat hari darshan and O duniya ke rakhwale, and where will I find a voice like Mohammed Rafi,” Bhansali asks. “And where will I find a voice like Mohammed Rafi?” The movie I make will be current with the talent on hand and with our times. My Baiju Bawra will differ from the original Baiju Bawra in the same way that my Devdas did from Bimal Roy’s Devdas.
After establishing the truth of the details surrounding Baiju Bawra, shall we put an end to all discussion regarding the scope and vision of the project? Those technical aspects of the project are nowhere near planning, let alone inception.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently polishing Heeramandi, his high-end OTT offering. Plans for Baiju Bawra’s pre-production will be put on hold till Heeramandi is finished.
