  • "Gadar 2" falls just short of breaking "Pathaan" record of ₹524 crore

20th September 2023, Mumbai: In a dramatic showdown at the box office, Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2” wraps up its cinematic journey with a remarkable total collection of ₹520.35 crore, marking an impressive feat in the world of Bollywood. Despite its valiant efforts, “Gadar 2” finds itself falling just short of breaking the formidable record set by Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan,” which stands at ₹524 crore. Initially, there was speculation that “Gadar 2” might surpass “Pathaan,” but SRK’s movie continues to maintain its impressive benchmark.

Gadar 2 Box Office Collection

On the 40th day since its release, “Gadar 2” added ₹45 lakh to its cumulative earnings, bringing the final tally to ₹520.35 crore. This achievement is a testament to the film’s resilience and enduring popularity, even in the face of formidable competition. “Gadar 2” faced its biggest challenge when Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan” stormed into theaters on September 7. Since its debut, “Jawan” has been making headlines by setting records and dazzling audiences. The film has now amassed a total collection of ₹507.88 crore and has set its sights on surpassing the record previously set by “Pathaan.”

Gadar 2 had competition with OMG 2, Jailer

When “Gadar 2” hit screens on August 11, it made a stunning opening day collection of ₹40.1 crore. Despite fierce competition from other releases like Rajinikanth’s “Jailer,” Akshay Kumar’s “OMG 2,” and the Alia Bhatt-Ranveer Singh starrer “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” the movie consistently held its own at the box office.

“Gadar 2” has not only lived up to the legacy of Gadar

The first installment of “Gadar,” also directed by Anil Sharma, achieved blockbuster status in 2001, even when it clashed with the critically acclaimed hit “Lagaan.” The film concluded its run with a global box office collection of ₹130 crore. “Gadar 2” has not only lived up to the legacy of its predecessor but has significantly outperformed it. The film features an ensemble cast, including Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma, and is set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan War. While “Gadar 2” basks in the glory of its box office success, it has not been without its share of criticisms. This iteration of “Gadar” serves as a reminder of the loudness, saccharine sentimentality, and over-the-top dialogues that Bollywood had gradually started moving away from, leaving some audiences nostalgic for a different era.

“Gadar 2” may not have broken “Pathaan’s” record, but it stands as a testament to the enduring power of Indian cinema and the remarkable box office achievements it can attain. While “Pathaan” retains its coveted position, “Gadar 2” will forever be remembered as a cinematic force that captivated audiences and left an indelible mark on Bollywood.
