24th September 2023, Mumbai: Gadar 2’s box office journey on its 44th day mirrors the ebb and flow of Bollywood’s cinematic tides. As Shah Rukh Khan’s formidable spectacle, “Jawan,” continues to dominate the box office with unparalleled fervor, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s war drama approaches the end of its theatrical voyage. Yet, it refuses to bow out quietly. On a recent Saturday, the Anil Sharma directorial masterpiece, “Gadar 2,” triumphantly pocketed a respectable sum of Rs 50 lakh, as reported by the keen industry observers at Sacnilk. This injection of earnings propels “Gadar 2” to an astounding 44-day collection tally, now standing tall at an impressive Rs 522.84 crore.

Gadar 2 Box Office Collection

Amidst this cinematic spectacle, “Gadar 2” maintained a steadfast grip on the hearts and minds of its audience, boasting a remarkable occupancy rate of 25.16 percent within the Hindi-speaking market. This feat stands in stark contrast to the performance of the week’s new entrant, “The Great Indian Family,” which witnessed less than half of “Gadar 2’s” allure. The sequel to the 2001 blockbuster had set the stage with a celebratory opening, a staggering Rs 40.1 crore, and remarkably, continued its triumphant march for nearly a month thereafter. Its financial ledger reads like a rollercoaster of success: Rs 284.63 crore in the first week, followed by Rs 134.47 crore, Rs 63.35 crore, Rs 27.55 crore, Rs 7.28 crore, and finally, Rs 4.72 crore in the subsequent weeks.

Gadar 2 VS Jawan

Featuring the powerhouse duo of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, “Gadar 2” took audiences on an emotional wartime odyssey, commencing its cinematic voyage on August 11. It braved the storm admirably until Shah Rukh Khan’s magnum opus, “Jawan,” stormed into cinema halls on September 7. The Atlee-directed juggernaut shattered records with an astonishing Rs 546 crore haul in a mere 17 days. In this battle of the titans, it appears “Gadar 2” will ultimately fall short of “Pathaan’s” monumental collection of Rs 543 crore. As the week progresses, “Gadar 2” sets its sights on a respectable lifetime collection of Rs 525 crore. Meanwhile, on the horizon, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s “The Vaccine War” prepares to grace cinema halls, while “Jawan” continues to allure audiences even into its third triumphant week.

Naseeruddin Shah Uset With Gadar 2 Like Movies?

In the midst of this box office frenzy, acclaimed actor Naseeruddin Shah weighed in on the cultural impact of “jingoistic” films like “The Kashmir Files,” “The Kerala Story,” and, indeed, “Gadar 2.” He expressed profound concern over the ascendancy of such narratives over the cinematic creations of directors like Hansal Mehta, Anubhav Sinha, and Sudhir Mishra. Naseeruddin Shah questioned whether the fundamental objectives of filmmaking in Bollywood have fundamentally shifted. He articulated, “Now the more jingoistic you are, the more popular you become because this is what has been ruling this country. It’s not enough to love your country; you have to beat drums about it and create imaginary enemies.”

Gadar 2 Supports Vaccine War

Naseeruddin Shah did not mince words when he pointed out that those crafting such jingoistic narratives fail to realize the potential harm they may inflict. He lamented, “In fact, films like ‘Kerala Story’ and ‘Gadar 2’—I haven’t seen them, but I understand their essence. It’s disheartening that films like ‘Kashmir Files’ attain massive popularity, while the efforts of Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha, and Hansal Mehta, who endeavor to unveil the truth of their times, go largely unnoticed.” In response to these sentiments, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, director of “The Vaccine War,” remained unperturbed.

Gadar 2 Starcast

In retrospect, “Gadar 2” stands as a sequel to the iconic “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.” The film resurrects the unforgettable characters of Tara and Sakeena, portrayed once again by the incomparable duo of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. Guided by the expert hand of Anil Sharma, the film also features Utkarsh Sharma, Manish Wadhwa, and Simratt Kaur in pivotal roles.
