22 June 2023, Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in various parts of the country. According to the IMD, active monsoon conditions are expected to persist over East-central, Northwest, and West India for the next 4-5 days. The Southwest monsoon is also predicted to advance into additional regions, including parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and the Western Himalayan Region.

The IMD’s press release states that the Southwest Monsoon has already made progress into several areas, such as the north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. It further mentions that favorable conditions exist for the monsoon to advance into more parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab within the next two days.

For East and Northeast India, the IMD forecasts widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Odisha on the 26th, followed by Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh on the 29th and 30th of June. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in parts of East India and Northeast India during the mentioned timeframes.Northwest India can anticipate light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls over the Western Himalayan Region and the plains of northwest India over the next five days. East Rajasthan is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on the 29th of June, while other areas may see heavy to very heavy rainfall between June 26 and 28.

Central India is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls, thunderstorms, and lightning in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha over the next 3-4 days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in Chhattisgarh on the 26th, followed by East Madhya Pradesh on the 26th and 27th, West Madhya Pradesh on the 27th and 28th, and Vidarbha on June 27th.

South India can expect scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next five days, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. On the 27th of June, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Kerala and Mahe. Telangana may experience isolated heavy rainfall on the 26th, while Coastal Karnataka can expect heavy rainfall from the 26th to the 30th, and South Interior Karnataka on the 29th and 30th of June.

In West India, light to moderate fairly widespread rainfall is anticipated over the next five days. Konkan & Goa, Gujarat State, and Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra may witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 26th to 30th. The IMD has also issued Agromet advisories for rainfall, thunderstorms/gusty winds, and heatwaves in several parts of the country.

The IMD advises taking necessary measures to drain excess water from crop fields and prevent water stagnation in various states including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Telangana, and the North Eastern States.Due to the expected heavy rainfall, the IMD suggests taking appropriate actions, including precautions and preparedness, in specific regions such as Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh
