Among the several famous people who turned up for the Golden Globe Awards 2024 in Beverly Hills today (January 8, IST) was Dua Lipa. One of the stars who looked the finest at the award show was Dua, who was nominated for finest Original Song for her song Dance the Night from ‘Barbie’. Not only did the singer of “Houdini” provide an unstoppable bang for the film, but she also starred as Mermaid Barbie, a beach-dwelling seafaring companion who took inspiration from the real Barbie dolls of the same name. (In actuality, Lipa plays three different Mermaid Barbies in the movie; they each have bright pink, purple, and teal hair.) Even though Dua Lipa is now best known for her incredibly catchy pop songs, we will always remember her beginnings as a model as she always approaches the red carpet like a runway.

For the red-carpet event, the Houdini singer wore an exquisite outfit from the cutting-edge Italian haute couture brand Schiaparelli. She chose a black gown adorned with opulent motifs that were reflective of Schiaparelli’s hallmark style.

Dua Lipa demonstrated once more at the Golden Globe Awards 2024 how unparalleled her red-carpet fashion selections are. The singer made it to the best-dressed star list and adorned the star-studded event in an eye-catching gothic mermaid moment.

Dua Lipa’s look

The gown made of black velvet has a unique “umbrella” volume at the hem, a strapless neckline, a bustier that hugs her stunning figure, embroidered bone motifs in gold and diamonds, and a lace closure with gold eyelets on the back. Among the accessories used by Dua Lipa were, Jimmy Choo shoes and vintage Tiffany & Co. jewellery from 1962—such as rings, gold and diamond hoops earrings, and an overlapping knot necklace. She also selected mauve lip colour, feathery brows, smudged eye shadow, blush on cheeks, mascara on lashes, and highlighter on contours as her final beauty choices. Her red carpet outfit was completed with a blood-crimson manicure and burgundy locks parted in the middle.

Dua Lipa’s nomination

Dua is grateful and thrilled about the nomination, and released a statement saying ,“I woke up this morning to my first Golden Globe nomination, and I couldn’t be more grateful!” she said. “Getting the chance to write a song for a movie was so special. Figuring out how to soundtrack this critical moment in the movie on Barbie’s ‘best day ever’ was like this big jigsaw puzzle that Mark, Andrew, Caroline and I had to fit together. The entire experience was completely different than writing one of my own songs, and it’s one that I’ll never forget.”

Other nominees at the awards

In addition to Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night,” other nominees for the Best Original Song category included “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas from Barbie, “Addicted to Romance” by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa from She Came to Me, “Road to Freedom” by Lenny Kravitz from Rustin, “Peaches” by Jack Black, Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond, and John Spiker from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and “I’m Just Ken” by Andrew Wyatt and Mark Ronson from Barbie. The Golden Globe went to Billie Eilish and Finneas’ tune for the same song.
