8th April, 2023 Mumbai: Darshan Jalan is acknowledged with altering the way that fashion is portrayed in movies, on the catwalk, and in street style. His costumes for movies like Vikram Veda, Ankhon Dekhi, Dum Lagake Haisha, Teen, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, 24 (Tamil), Kahani 2, Sui-Dhaaga, Mithya, and web series like Mirzapur, Delhi Crime2, Leila, and many others have won him a devoted following for accurately recreating the appearances of actors in their characters. He is aware of the specifics of the ever changing fashion industry and, as a result, recognises the necessity to experiment with emerging trends and designs in order to stay current.
The narrative of Jalan is both uplifting and sympathetic. Darshan, a graduate of NIFT Mumbai, began his career designing men’s clothing for Provogue. He then worked as a designer for Killer Jeans and Options Juhu. He claims that while leading a frugal lifestyle in Mumbai for the majority of the early 2000s was difficult, it also strengthened his character.
His first chance to work in film was Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women, which also served as a springboard for his subsequent success in the Indian film business. Despite receiving numerous nominations for awards and well-wishes, he is not at all complacent.
Darshan is an artist, designer, and visionary who was born in Ranchi, Jharkhand. His upbringing in a family that values the arts greatly gave him a platform, but it was his experience at Scindia School, which was housed in the impressive Gwalior Fort architecture, that really piqued his interest in design, aesthetics, and storytelling.
Jalan prefers to keep himself busy and is naturally a private guy. In the face of criticism and self-doubt, his single-minded aim to establish a new environment for costume design in Indian cinema keeps him focused.
“In my opinion, it’s crucial to learn as many skills as you can along the way and to adapt to changing circumstances. Be creative and avoid trying to blend in with the crowd, adds Darshan Jalan, who also has two design partners in Neelanchal Ghosh and Manish Tiwari. “But I think it’s equally vital to have a unique point of view.
