4 July 2023, Mumbai: All government and private educational institutions in the district will observe a temporary closure from July 8 to 16, according to district administration officials. The decision has been taken in light of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, which commenced on Tuesday and is set to culminate on August 15 with the offering of holy Ganga water to Lord Shiva.

District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bengari has issued an order stating that all schools and colleges, including private institutions, are required to remain shut during the specified period. This measure has been implemented as a precautionary step to ensure the smooth conduct of the Kanwar Yatra in the district.

The Kanwar Yatra holds great religious significance for devotees who embark on this pilgrimage to collect sacred water from the Ganga River and offer it to Lord Shiva. The yatra attracts a significant number of participants, leading to potential overcrowding and concerns regarding public safety and security.

By temporarily closing educational institutions, authorities aim to minimize any potential disruptions or risks associated with the movement of yatra participants. This proactive approach will help maintain public order and facilitate the peaceful observance of the religious procession. The closure of schools and colleges during the Kanwar Yatra period serves as a preventive measure to ensure the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and staff. It also aligns with the larger objective of maintaining harmony and promoting a conducive environment for the religious activities taking place during this time.

While the temporary closure may cause some inconvenience to educational institutions and their stakeholders, it is a necessary step in light of the ongoing religious event. District authorities, in coordination with relevant stakeholders, will monitor the situation closely to assess any further measures required to ensure the smooth conduct of the Kanwar Yatra and the subsequent resumption of educational activities.

The district administration urges all educational institutions, students, and parents to cooperate with the temporary closure and abide by the prescribed dates. The safety and security of all individuals involved are of paramount importance, and the closure of educational institutions during this period will contribute to ensuring a successful and peaceful Kanwar Yatra.
