WHAT IS ACIDITY AND ITS CAUSES?

Acidity is a common medical condition caused due to excessive production of acid by stomach which flows back into food pipe which causes burning sensation in the lower chest area. Acidity is mostly caused due to oily and spicy foods which makes stomach produce more acid (HcL) ultimately causing burning sensation. Other causes may include poor heating habits, obesity, smoking, intake of alcohol etc,

SYMPTOMS:

Though there are many symptoms of acidity but common and usually identifiable one is burning sensation in lower chest area and stomach. Other symptoms may include Nausea, Bad breath, Ulcers, Vomitting, Sour taste in mouth, restlessness, constipation, etc,.

RISING CASES OF ACIDITY:

Recently a report revealed that over 32% of the adults aged 30-44 years have acidity and indigestion issued. While another reports reveals that every 7 out of 10 persons residing in urban areas have stomach related problems. The increase in cases of acidity is due to bad lifestyle and eating habits of people. This is certainly an alarming sign for the people as acidity problems can be of long time also.

HOW TO PREVENT ACIDITY:

Acidity can easily be prevented by following regular diet and having a balanced diet in meal. Following are some tips to prevent acidity:-

  1. Control obesity
  2. Wear loose clothes
  3. Properly chew food
  4. Drink plenty of water
  5. Avoid excess oily and spicy food
  6. Avoid smoking
  7. Take food at regular intervals

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF ACIDITY:

If acidity occurs try to get an antacid from nearby chemist shop to get instant relief. Drink Ginger tea it is proven to be beneficial during acidity. Fruits like Muskmelon, Banana, Apple, Coconut can provide relief from acidity.
