Himachal Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Warning for Aug 14 17 18

Himachal Pradesh stayed mostly dry on Thursday with light to rain seen in some areas. However the weather department has issued warnings for rain in districts and said there will be heavy rainfall in some places on August 14 17 and 18.

The monsoon continues to cause problems in parts of the state. There are 200 roads still closed. There are also problems with power transformers and water supply schemes.

Yellow Alert Issued for 10 Districts

The Shimla Meteorological Centre issued a warning for light rain in 10 districts on Thursday. These districts are Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kangra, Kullu and Chamba.

At the time an orange alert for heavy rainfall in some places has been issued for August 14 17 and 18. People living in areas that're at risk should stay alert. This is especially true in places that're likely to have landslides, flash floods and waterlogging.

200 Roads Remain Closed Across Himachal

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre 200 roads were closed across Himachal Pradesh because of weather problems and other issues.

Mandi had the road closures with 64. Then came:

  • Kullu – 60 roads
  • Shimla – 32 roads
  • Chamba – 24 roads
  • Sirmaur – 6 roads
  • Kangra – 5 roads
  • Una – 4 roads
  • Lahaul-Spiti – 3 roads
  • Kinnaur – 2 roads

The road closures have made travel and connections difficult in parts of the state.

Power and Water Supply Also Affected

The weather problems have also affected services. Out of the 45 power transformers that were damaged 35 were in Mandi district.

Also 39 water supply systems across the state have been affected. This has made life hard for people in some areas.

Where Did It Rain in Himachal?

There was light to rain in some places. Rohru had the rain at 22 mm. Then came Khadrala with 17 mm and Kasauli with 12 mm.

Sarahan and Kothi each had 2 mm of rain.

Even though there were some rain showers most parts of the state stayed mostly dry during the day.

Temperatures Stay Above Normal

Minimum temperatures across Himachal Pradesh were two to five degrees Celsius higher than normal.Kukumseri had the temperature in the state at 10.3 degrees Celsius.

Flash Flood Damage Reported in Lahaul-SpitiOfficials have finished checking the damage from flash floods in Munchi and Chapor Nallah in Lahaul and Spiti district on August 11.

The check found damage to a 700-metre part of the Munchi-Tinno road. Private and government irrigation channels, 63 metres of irrigation pipes and crops in some fields were also affected.

The Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Keylong, Kanika along with revenue officials visited the affected areas on August 12. They talked with people who were affected by the flash floods.

Himachal Residents Advised to Stay Alert

With rain warnings for August 14 17 and 18 residents and travelers are told to be careful and keep up to date with the latest weather news.

Those traveling to landslide-prone areas should check the road conditions before they start their journey. Heavy rain could cause road closures, landslides and problems with essential services, in some parts of Himachal Pradesh.
