New Delhi (India) March 24:Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a conversation with US President Donald Trump , where they discussed the ongoing situation in West Asia. Mr. Modi shared his thoughts on social media, emphasizing India's support for an immediate halt to the escalating tensions in the region. He highlighted the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and accessible, describing it as a vital lifeline for the world. Both leaders agreed to stay in close contact as they work towards peace and stability. “Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability,” Modi said on social media platform X.
Sergio Gor, the US ambassador to India, tweeted about the significance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open just minutes before Mr. Modi announced his discussion with President Trump. “President Donald Trump just spoke with Prime Minister Modi. They discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open,” Gor wrote on X. Additionally, India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar spoke with his American counterpart Marco Rubio for the first time on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi expressed his concerns about the potential long-term impacts of the West Asia conflict, particularly regarding energy supply chains, inflation, and trade. He urged everyone to adapt and prepare for the challenges ahead, assuring that the supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG is being managed through diverse sourcing. Mr. Modi stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only sustainable paths forward, even if the effects of the war may linger. “I urge citizens to be prepared for every challenge. The impact of this war may be long-lasting, but I assure the people that the government is alert and the nation’s interest remains paramount,” PM Modi said.
Trump Delays US Strikes for Tehran Talks
This call between Modi and Trump follows the US President's recent statements about having productive conversations with Tehran aimed at ending hostilities in the Middle East. Trump mentioned that he had ordered a five-day delay in planned US military strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure to allow for negotiations to proceed.
