Trump Announces Two‑Week Ceasefire With Iran, Stop Attacks to Open Strait of Hormuz

New Delhi (India) April 8:In a surprising turn of events, President Trumpannounced at the last minute that he had come to an agreement for a two-week cease-fire with the Iranian central government. This decision allows him to delay plans to target the country's power grid and bridges. Trump emphasized the importance of opening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway that carries about a fifth of the world's energy supplies during peacetime.

Trump’s Truth Social Post of Ceasefire

On social media, Trump claimed that both sides had consented to a "two-sided ceasefire." He expressed optimism, stating that American military objectives have already been achieved; it may not be long until the conflict is close to being resolved.
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz , I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double-sided CEASEFIRE!" Trump said.

"The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East. We received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate," he added.

Iran Claims Victory, Cites 10‑Point Plan

Iranian officials have indicated their acceptance of the ceasefire proposal, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noting that if the United States and Israel cease their attacks, Iran would reciprocate by suspending its “defensive operations” for the duration of the ceasefire.
Tehran also declared its victory in the ongoing conflict that escalated after the U.S.-Israeli bombing on February 28. They claimed to have successfully pressured the U.S. into agreeing to their ten-point plan, which includes demands for lifting sanctions and recognizing Iran’s right to nuclear enrichment. The Supreme National Security Council of Iran described the ceasefire conditions as maintaining Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, accepting nuclear enrichment, and lifting all sanctions.

Other key demands from this proposal, facilitated by mediators in Pakistan, include the withdrawal of U.S. military forces from the Middle East, a halt to attacks on Iran and its allies, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and a binding UN Security Council resolution to solidify any agreements made.
