A new petition asks for the ability of incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to videoconference with MLAs and cabinet ministers

What Petition?

In his plea, a man named Shrikant Prasad claimed that neither the Indian Constitution nor any other legislation forbade any minister—chief minister or prime minister included—from running the government while incarcerated.
Three public interest lawsuits asking for orders to remove Arvind Kejriwal from his position as chief minister were recently dismissed by the Delhi High Court.

HC’s take

The third plea, submitted by the former Delhi Cabinet Minister, was dismissed by the court, which also fined the petitioner ₹50,000 and told him to stop creating a joke out of the system. The only way to stop these petitions is through costs.”
The petitioner’s actions were deemed unacceptable by the bench of Justices Manmohan and Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, who also declared that the Governor would decide on the matter. “We’re not going to. Political speeches should not be made in court. You’re attempting to drag us into the political muddied areas,” the Justice remarked.

Imposter in the party?

A former MLA and minister in the Aam Aadmi Party government has petitioned the Delhi High Court to remove Arvind Kejriwal from his position as chief minister.
under the plea, Arvind Kejriwal is accused of incurring inability to retain the office of Chief Minister of Delhi after his detention by the Enforcement Directorate under Excise Policy, and a writ of quo-warranto is sought against him.
The Directorate of Enforcement detained Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with the excise policy matter.
Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody was prolonged by the trial court on April 15 till April 23, 2024. According to the ED, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the primary recipient of the criminal earnings from the purported liquor fraud. (ANI)
