New Delhi (India) June 23: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the allegations of irregularities in the donation of money and valuables at the Ram temple in Ayodhya has submitted its first report to the Uttar Pradesh government.

Cash Recovery Triggers Scrutiny at Ram Mandir

The SIT of three members was formed on June 13 on the request of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which runs the temple. It was formed as a precautionary measure after 10 lakh was discovered in the home of an employee of the temple in Ayodhya.

SIT began its investigation into allegations of theft and misappropriation of offerings paid to the temple. They conducted an investigation into the donation collection and counting practices at the temple, a search of the temple’s financial records, and interviewed around 150 people from the temple’s management and operations.

Team Seeks Extension for Detailed Probe

While the contents of the report remain officially undisclosed, the state government is expected to review the findings before determining its subsequent course of action.

In view of the complexities and sensitivity of the investigation, the SIT has requested an extension and the addition of more officers to ensure a thorough and comprehensive examination.

SIT Chief Submits Preliminary Report

SIT chief and senior police officer Gyaneshwar Tiwari Pant told PTI Videos that he had submitted preliminary findings based on available information and evidence and the team would submit a final report after further scrutiny.

Pant said the contents of the report were confidential and could not be released publicly. He also said the investigation was ongoing and that his team may return to Ayodhya if necessary.

Akhilesh Demands Transparency in Temple Probe

The political dimension of the row came into focus when Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav commented on June 7 about the unaccounted-for crores of rupees in Ram Temple donations, calling for the intervention of the judiciary.

Yadav demanded daily updates on the SIT probe, suggesting that there is a loss of public faith in the agency due to alleged corruption under the BJP government.
