Govt Chairs All-Party Meet, Assures No Panic Over West Asia Tensions; Opposition Backs

Opposition Pledges Full Support to Centre

Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju noted that the opposition parties have given the assurance of their full support to the government after the all-party meeting on the Middle East crisis. He also mentioned that the ministers have satisfactorily responded to the queries raised regarding the fallout of the Iran-Israel-US conflict and its impact on India . 

“All the opposition parties have assured us that they will stand with the government in all the steps the government takes according to the situation,” Rijiju said.
According to Rijiju, the government had called the meeting in order to update the political parties about the changing situation in the Middle East and the measures being taken to safeguard Indian interests.

Misri, Jaishankar Brief on Updates

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was the first to make a presentation on the matter. Thereafter, S. Jaishankar and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri spoke about the issue. They gave the assurance that energy security of the country is not at risk in any way.
Officials revealed that there is enough availability of crude oil, LPG and other necessary supplies. Further, India's refining capacity is excellent and will ensure that the supplies of fuel and fertilizers will be uninterrupted. Few shipments have already docked and the expected ones will arrive soon.

US-Israel Strikes Sparked Crisis

The Middle East crisis was initiated after the joint strikes of the US and Israel on Iran on February 28. The conflict has caused a lot of worry all over the world, especially regarding the supply of fuel, trade routes, and the stability of the region. PM Narendra Modi had previously spoken in Parliament, cautioning that the effects of the conflict may be long-lasting. He asked the people and states to be ready for the difficulties that may come up.
