Imran Khan's Vision Down to 15% in Jail: Plea Ignored, SC Orders Checkup

New Delhi (India) February 12:Pakistan’s jailed former PM Imran Khan recently told a court-appointed lawyer that the officials at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail have ignored his complaints about his eyesight failing him repeatedly and that he is left with only “15% vision” in his right eye.
Advocate Salman Safdar, charged as amicus curiae by the Pakistani Supreme Court, went to the Adiala jail of Rawalpindi and presented a comprehensive report on Mr. Khan’s living conditions and health.

From Perfect 6/6 to Hazy Blur in Months

Safdar himself had witnessed the former prime minister in the jail visit and his distress was visible. The findings provide a bleak picture of a former prime minister forced to live in seclusion, deprived of prompt access to medical attention, barred from seeing family members and cut off from legal counsel — a dynamic that critics blame on the Pakistani deep state and the Pakistan Army.
Khan reported that about three to four months earlier, until October 2025, he still had normal 6 x 6 vision in both eyes. Next he “started having persistent blurred and hazy vision, which he used to report to the then jail superintendent” but “no action of the jail authorities took care of these complaints.”

Solitary Hell: No Family, No Lawyers Allowed

According to Safdar, Khan's immediate family, which includes his sisters, were forbidden from meeting him regularly, despite court orders.
"Only after a recent change in the office of the Superintendent Jail has he been permitted to meet his wife, which is now allowed once a week for approximately 30 minutes," the report said.

PTI Hails Order as Win Against Deep State

In the wake of Mr. Safdar’s report, Thursday on Feb. 12, 2026, the Supreme Court instructed the Pakistani authorities to establish a medical board to assess Mr. Khan’s eye and to permit him to communicate with his children.
Khan’s party, the PTI, was pleased with the Supreme Court's recommendation that a medical board should review him.
“The Supreme Court’s order for a complete eye check-up of Imran Khan vindicates the party’s longstanding concerns about his deteriorating health and denial of timely, independent medical care in custody,” the party said.

Jail Ignores Khan's Repeated Eye Complaints

Mr. Khan, who was held in Attock district jail and then transferred to Adiala in October since his arrest last August, has spent the majority of his days segregated in solitary confinement.
At a lawyer's meeting, he said he suffered from “rapid and substantial” loss of vision starting in October last year, one he repeatedly reported to authorities at jail. But his concern was not taken seriously nor addressed, Mr. Khan said.
