Indian IIT Grad Saketh Dies in US, Body Recovered after Six Days

New Delhi (India) February 15:22-year-old UC Berkeley student Saketh Sreenivasaiah, originally from Karnataka, was discovered dead in the United States six days after his disappearance. His roommate, Baneet Singh, said there were no signs of anything until the last two weeks.

Consulate Steps In for Grieving Family

The Consulate General of India in San Francisco confirmed the development, writing on X that Saketh’s body was recovered and assured the family assistance.
The Consulate also extended its heartfelt condolences: it will be in touch with the family and help complete all formalities, including repatriating the mortal remains.
"The Consulate deeply regrets to inform that local police have confirmed the recovery of the body of the missing Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time,” the statement said.
It added, “Our consular officers are in direct contact with the family and will support them with all required formalities and services.”

From IIT Genius to Berkeley

Saketh was a student at the University of California, Berkeley, pursuing a Master of Science (Product Development Programme) from August 2025. Local media reported Saketh was missing on Tuesday, February 10. The backpack had his passport and laptop; it was discovered on a doorstep in the Park Hills neighbourhood.
Saketh was last seen in the 1700 block of Dwight Way, police said. He was reported as 6 feet 1 inch tall with short black hair and brown eyes. 

Saketh studied chemical engineering for his bachelor’s degree at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has a patent for a microchannel cooling system for hyperloop, as per his LinkedIn profile. He graduated in 2025 and moved to California. 

Shocking Disappearance in Berkeley

Saketh S had been missing since the morning of February 10. His roommates lodged a missing persons complaint with the Berkeley Police Department after finding it impossible to track him down. Saketh's father said the roommates told the parents on February 12 that Saketh had gone missing since February 10 with his wallet and bag found in a local park.
