In the recent news that has sent shockwaves through the corridors of Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) Member of Parliament (MP) A. Ganeshamurthi has tragically passed away. The revered leader succumbed to a cardiac arrest following an alleged suicide attempt.
Background of the Leader
Born in the district of Erode, Ganeshamurthi’s acumen was not only evident in his rise through the MDMK party ranks but also in his poignant representation of Erode pressing developmental needs. He marked his entry into the political arena in the early 2000s. Ganeshamurthi, soon became a popular face in the state.
Ganeshamurthi reportedly tried to by suicide on March 24 by consuming poison at his residence in Erode. After finding him in an unconscious state his family members took him to a local hospital, where he underwent initial treatment. He was later transferred to the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) in Coimbatore, where he unfortunately passed away. The tragic circumstances surrounding his demise have led to a series of discussions in the political spectrum in the state.
The reactions from other peers
The concurrent Tamil Nadu Housing and Urban Development Minister Mr. S Muthusamy, former minister K V Ramalingam and MDMK general secretary Vaiko were among the people who visited him in the hospital.
Sources from MDMK said that Ganeshamurthi, a three-time Lok Sabha MP, was recently informed that he would be considered for the upcoming Assembly elections, in 2026. But the denial of a ticket this time had triggered in him emotions that might have pushed him towards this step. These are the sp[eculations from his peers of MDMK.
However, the police says that the investigation for the ultimate reason of his suicide attempt is still under process. The reason for his death was a cardiac arrest, but the reason for his suicide attempt is not known yet.
Some sources also say that the MDMK MP was also suffering from depression ever since he came to know that his party has decided to not give him the ticket for these elections. However, the clear picture will come out once the investigation is complete.
