Nitish Kumar Breaks Silence on Rajya Sabha Entry, Assures Support to New Govt

The statement from the Janata Dal (United) chief followed reports that he had filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha. Kumar is expected to step down from the Chief Minister position if elected.

Nitish Kumar expresses long-held political wish

Kumar said in a post on X that from the very start of his political journey, he had always wished to serve in both Houses of the Bihar Legislature and both Houses of Parliament. 

He conveyed gratitude to the people of Bihar for their trust and support during the past 20 years, saying their faith helped the state move forward with development and dignity.

Kumar also told citizens that he will maintain his connection with them in the future. 

“I will give my complete cooperation and guidance to the new government which will be created,” he said. 

Rajya Sabha elections from Bihar

Five seats in Rajya Sabha from Bihar are due for election on March 16. The elections are on track as the terms of several leaders, including Harivansh Narayan Singh, Ram Nath Thakur, Prem Chand Gupta, Amarendra Dhari Singh, and Upendra Kushwaha, are coming to an end. 

Who could be Bihar’s next Chief Minister?

Nitish Kumar’s departure from the CM post likely will see someone from the Bharatiya Janata Party lead the charge in the state. Reports are that Samrat Choudhary and Nityanand Rai are among its most serious contenders.

If this happens, it is a historic moment for Bihar, where it will have its first ever BJP Chief Minister — an event that has not happened before in the Hindi heartland.
