Odisha Horror: 23-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Raped Twice in a Day, Pushed From 4-Storey Building

In a horrifying case that has triggered outrage around Odisha , a 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped twice in a single day before she was pushed to her death from a four-storey building in Jagatsinghpur district on February 22.

The reports state that police arrested both accused and booked them under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for kidnapping, rape and murder.

How the Crime Allegedly Unfolded

The woman had left home to see her boyfriend, who had promised marriage and asked her to go to a temple, police inform. Instead, he reportedly took her to a deserted part, raped her and left her waiting at Rahama bus stand.

The woman was apparently upset and stranded, waiting there for help, it reports. That is when a rider from Jharkhand riding his motorcycle heading toward Paradip approached her. According to the police, he said he would help but instead he carried her to the roof of his rented house in Paradip town, where he allegedly raped her and then pushed her off the building.

Her body was found the next morning.

The victim was reported to have been missing by her brother on the evening of February 22. Her lifeless body was discovered on February 23 and police initially filed an unnatural death case. On February 25, a detailed complaint of rape and murder was filed leading to arrests.

Political Storm Erupts

The shocking case has prompted fierce political backlash. Naveen Patnaik, the BJD president and Leader of Opposition, expressed concerns as to women’s safety in the state, highlighting the difference between the stated reality and the ground reality.

Patnaik was alarmed that crimes against women are increasing in areas such as Kanihan, Kuchinda and Paradip, and asked the Odisha government to exert strict control and bolster women’s safety measures in the state, Patnaik said in a post on X.

Rising Concerns Over Women’s Safety in Odisha

The case has focused on women’s safety and law enforcement accountability, and underscored the need for more aggressive preventive measures. As investigations unfold that case has raised public demand for immediate justice and systemic change.

More investigations are happening, authorities say.
