Tribute from Fadnavis

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called it a loss. He said he was "deeply saddened" by the passing.
“His contribution to the textile industry, his philanthropy and adventurous spirit will continue to inspire generations together. ‘Raymond - The Complete Man’ is not just a tagline we all grew up with, but has set many trends, right from quality and perfection in entrepreneurship to communication and brand. I offer my humble tributes to the man who set the legacy called ‘Raymond’ Group,” Fadnavis said on social media platform X.

Aviation Adventures

Outside business circles, Singhania had a real passion for flying and climbing. He pushed boundaries - ran high-risk missions like solo flights across remote areas.
He held the world record for the highest altitude gained in a hot air balloon as well as being a gold medalist in the air race around the world. His contribution in the field of aviation was further recognised by the Indian Air Force which awarded him the honorary rank of Air Commodore on him in 1994 after he had reached more than 5,000 flying hours. In 2006, he was made the Sheriff of Mumbai. He was also awarded the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.

Business Legacy

Vijaypat Singhania took over the leadership of the Raymond Group as chairman and managing director in 1980 decades before India's economic liberalisation in 1991 which was going to change the consumer market drastically. With his help and the leadership of the textile major, this company was able to withstand the changes in the economy when many old brand names were struggling to cope with the new realities.

Family Feud After Retirement

After he decided to retire and gave Raymond to his son Gautam Singhania in 2015, their relationship deteriorated and resulted in their public quarrel. Since then he and wife have been living in a rented house which is quite a contrast with their extravagant lifestyle before.
In the past few years however his public appearances have become very rare.
