New Delhi (India) March 28:PM Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated the Noida International Airport at Jewar. Besides the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, the Noida International Airport is the second international airport in the Delhi-NCR region. It is expected to be quite handy in decongesting the already crowded IGI Airport of Delhi.
The ultra-modern new airport has been laid out to meet 'world-class' standards and comes equipped with new-generation facilities that make passengers' stay more comfortable. Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, and many other leaders were present on the occasion.

Relieves Airport Rush

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the Noida International Airport, which is going to be one of the critical greenfield projects of the country, will not only decongest Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport but also give a major impetus to the country's logistics sector.
"Tomorrow… is a day of immense importance for the people of Uttar Pradesh and NCR. Phase 1 of Noida International Airport will be inaugurated. This will boost commerce and connectivity. It will ease congestion at the IGI Airport in Delhi. The Noida airport is among the key greenfield projects in our nation. In addition to passenger services, it will have a robust cargo ecosystem thus boosting the logistics sector,” he said on social media platform X.

PM's Key Points

During his speech, PM highlighted the unlocking of new opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, and youth of western UP through this project. He also mentioned that the airport will cover a large area including Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Etawah, Bulandshahr and Faridabad, thereby greatly boosting connectivity throughout the region.
He emphasized that the rise of the aviation industry can be a major source of employment for the young people such as pilots, flight attendants, and aircraft maintenance and repair professionals.

Project Expansion Plan

Conceived and designed as the second airport for the National Capital Region, the project will require an investment of 11,200 crore. Initially, it will be equipped to handle 12 million passengers per year with a single runway whereas the masterplan of the project envisions the airport to have the capacity for 70 million passengers annually and up to six runways.
The development of the airport is planned to be done in two stages. The passenger capacity will be increased from 70 million to 225 million during the two stages.

Full Project Scope

In the first phase, the airport covers an area of 1,334 hectares and has two entry gates, 48 check-in counters out of which 20 are for self-baggage drop and 10 boarding gates linked to aerobridges.
On top of that, there are different immigration counters for arrivals and departures, a domestic as well as an international lounge, and a baggage handling system that consists of two domestic and one international carousels.
