Sunil Sharma Slams Omar Abdullah's "Arrogant" Remarks as Black Day in J&K Democracy

New Delhi (India) February 13:The Leader of Opposition, Sunil Sharma, said, in his statement that certain remarks made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the House were a “black day” in the democratic history of the Union territory and demanded an unconditional apology from him, warning the opposition would refuse to allow the House to function until statements were withdrawn.

Accuses Abdullah of Arrogance, Disgrace

Sharma said the Chief Minister’s comments damaged the dignity and sanctity of the House by calling the incident unprecedented for a Chief Minister in the country. His allegations against Abdullah included arrogance and not living up to his responsibility and decorum in his time in office.
The day would be remembered as the day that brought shame to a democratic process the country inherited, Sharma said on the floor of the House.
“I believe that today will be written in black letters in the history of the J-K’s Assembly proceedings. It will be remembered as a day that brought shame to the country’s democratic process,” Sharma said.

Demands Unconditional Apology from CM

He said the Chief Minister's words attacked opposition members and damaged the reputation of the Assembly. He called for an unconditional apology and warned that the opposition would march on and disrupt the process until the Chief Minister offered an apology.
“We reject and condemn the words of Omar Abdullah and demand an unconditional apology. Our MLAs will not allow the House to function tomorrow until the chief minister withdraws his remarks and apologises on the floor of the House,” Sharma said.
He was responding to some comments made by Abdullah to parliamentarians he claimed represented BJP.

Blasts NC's Separatist Past, Lies

Sharma further accused the National Conference of backing separatism in the past and claiming it had protected terrorists and that the party had stayed at the forefront when Kashmir saw violence. Sharma also said that the National Conference’s election promises had become “deceptive”.
Sharma also lauded the Narendra Modi-led Centre as delivering justice to families impacted by terrorism by paying respect and giving them jobs.

Abdullah's Unparliamentary Remarks

Sharma also criticised the use of unparliamentary comments made by Abdullah. He said, “The language disgraced the Assembly, the office of the chief minister and the dignity of the proceedings.”
“But arrogance has gone so much to his head that he has forgotten the dignity of words and the sanctity of language. By using such words inside the Assembly, he has disgraced himself and the House,” Sharma added.
