Trashi-I Op: 3 Pak Terrorists Killed in Intense Kishtwar Gunfight, AK-47s Seized

New Delhi (India) February 22:The operation, which is now known as “Trashi-I”, was initiated on the basis of specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of three Pakistani terrorists in the vicinity. Terrorists hidden in a mudhouse on the foothills of a hill fired on the approaching troops, leading to an intense gunfight across the general area of Passerkoot in the Chatroo belt, and joint forces like Army’s 11 Rastriya Rifles, J&K Police, and CRPF began a search operation.

Weapons Recovered

Contact was established with the terrorists earlier, and security forces re-engaged them at around 11 A.M. in difficult terrain. Three terrorists were killed in the subsequent encounter.
The terrorists were being identified based on their identities and group affiliations. Security forces also recovered two AK-47 rifles and other warlike stores at the site of the encounter. The area has been cordoned off and search operations are ongoing. More details are awaited.

Chatroo Clashes: Soldier, Terrorist Killed

In the Chatroo forest belt, nearly half a dozen gunfights between terrorists and security forces last month resulted in the killing of a soldier and a terrorist. The joint force of security forces, including two Para Special Forces, are engaged in the operation.
The gunfight broke out as the forces had conducted a cordon-and-search operation guided by intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.

Regional Context

The operation follows a recent order from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to bring about complete peace across the Jammu division. On February 7, the Home Minister took a “mission-mode” approach to neutralizing foreign terrorists in the hilly districts on an official visit.
Security forces are currently collecting the bodies for final identification. Simultaneously, patrolling has intensified on the Kishtwar-Doda-Udhampur circuit to track the remaining members of the foreign terror cell.
