US-Israel Strike Kills IRGC Navy Chief Tangsiri, Who Led Hormuz Closure

New Delhi (India) March 26:Alireza Tangsiri, the naval commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been killed in a US-Israeli strike in the coastal area of Bandar Abbas, the Israeli media quoting an Israeli official revealed. Tangsiri was the one who led the closure of the Strait of Hormuz . Iran has not commented on the strike. If true, this would be the latest high-profile loss in the war.

Netanyahu Confirms Tangsiri Assassination

The assassination was confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who appeared in a video statement in which he assured that the Israeli forces would not stop their attacks against what they termed as the Iranian regime.
"Last night, we eliminated the Commander of the IRGC Navy. This man had a great deal of blood on his hands; he was also the one who led the closure of the Strait of Hormuz," said Netanyahu in a video address posted on social media platform X.
"This is yet another example of the cooperation between us and our friend, the United States, toward the common goal of achieving the objectives of the war," he added.

Tangsiri Led Strait of Hormuz Policy

Tangsiri was one of the few big names who had survived US-Israeli assassination attempts so far. He has been an experienced commander playing a very important part in Iran's policy of the Strait of Hormuz. He has continually been a leading figure in Iran's maritime strategy in the Persian Gulf.
In January 2026, there were reports of the Naval Commander being killed in an explosion in the Bandar Abbas area. However Tasnim state media agency, later released a statement from IRGC, which denied the reports and reaffirmed that Tangsiri was alive and well.

Israel Targets Top Iranian Commanders

The strike happens at the same time the war in the area is going on with Israel carrying out what it calls accurate assassination operations against military commanders.
The info comes out that Israel has been monitoring leaders' movements of the enemy countries, including Iran from the intelligence operations.

Israel's Strikes Kill IRGC Leaders

Ever since the beginning of the joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, Israel has declared killing a few of the most important Iranian officials among which are the supreme leader Ali Khamenei and the Islamic republic's powerful security chief, Ali Larijani.
Only a few days later, Ali Mohammad Naini who is the spokesperson of the Revolutionary Guards, also died in a joint US-Israeli strike. His death was still only a few hours when he appeared on national television bragging that Iran has the full missile production capability even though it is under wartime pressures.
