Govinda Returns to Politics

Bollywood actor Govinda on Thursday joined the Shiv Sena in presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Govinda joined Shiv Sena at Balasaheb Bhavan. Just before the elections addition of such a celebrity like Govinda is definitely a big booster for Shiv Sena.

Had contested for Congress in 2004

Govinda, had a small stint as a politician when he contested the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat in 2004 under the Congress banner. He famously defeated the BJP veteran leader Ram Naik. His victory earned him the tag of the ‘giant killer.’ This victory was particularly significant as North Mumbai, encompassing several key assembly segments, had long been considered a BJP stronghold. Govinda’s triumph over Ram Naik, a five-time MP, marked a pivotal moment in his political career, underscoring his popularity and influence in the region. However, Govinda later parted ways with the Congress party and decided not to contest elections in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. After that, Govinda, who used to campaign for Congress, stayed away from politics.

After 14 years again he will be contesting

“I was in politics from 2004 to 2009 and that was the 14th Lok Sabha. This is an amazing coincidence that now, after 14 years, today I have come into politics again,” the 60-year old actor said after joining the party.

Had a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister

Speculations were already very strong about Govinda’s re-entry into politics after a recent meeting between the actor and Eknath Shinde, as reported by PTI.

Comeback after 14 year long’s Vanvas

“Whatever work is assigned to me, I will do to the best of my ability,” said Govinda. I am back (in politics) after a 14-year-long ‘vanvas’ (exile),” he remarked. “Mumbai looks more beautiful and developed since Shinde has become Chief Minister,” the actor said, adding he would work in the art and culture field if given a chance.

He will work with utmost sincerity

 In his address, Govinda spoke about transforming the Film City of Mumbai. He is very focused in serving the people. He said whatever will be assigned to him ,he will do it with utmost sincerity. He will use his experience and will give his 100 percent for the betterment of people. Asked whether he would contest the polls, Govinda evaded a direct reply.

Govinda is inspired by the leadership

Shinde said that Govinda has joined the Shiv Sena inspired by the leadership and development politics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Govinda ji has come to Shiv Sena without any condition,” he said.

He may contest from North West Mumbai

Govinda may contest from the North-West Mumbai seat on Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) ticket, challenging Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Amol Kirtikar.
