26 June 2023, Mumbai: Taking inspiration from their successful anti-corruption campaign in Karnataka, the Madhya Pradesh Congress has launched a similar drive in the state. The campaign aims to target the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In Karnataka, the Congress managed to dislodge the BJP using effective campaigns like “PayCM” and “40% Sarkara,” which highlighted alleged corruption under the BJP’s governance. Now, the Madhya Pradesh Congress has introduced the “50% Commission Government” campaign against the BJP.

To amplify their campaign, the Congress has flooded cities in Madhya Pradesh with posters featuring Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s photographs along with QR codes. Additionally, the party is actively promoting the campaign through its social media channels. The Congress posted on Twitter, “Shivraj’s corruption on the streets of Sehore. Bring 50%, get the work done on the phone. The people of Madhya Pradesh know and recognize the 50% commission takers.”

During the launch of the party’s poll campaign for the Madhya Pradesh elections, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi unveiled five key poll promises, taking inspiration from the Karnataka campaign. These promises include a monthly financial scheme of Rs 1,500, subsidized LPG cylinders priced at Rs 500, the revival of the old pension scheme, and up to 100 units of free electricity.

The Congress party’s promise of Rs 1,500 monthly financial aid for each woman aims to counter Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s ‘Ladli Behna Yojana,’ under which eligible women receive Rs 1,000 per month. The subsidized LPG gas cylinder promise aims to challenge Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Ujjwala Yojana.’ Additionally, the free electricity promise draws inspiration from the governance model of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The Congress also pledges to restore the old pension scheme, aiming to appeal to thousands of government employees. “The Congress government in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh has restored the OPS,” stated Priyanka during her speech in Jabalpur. Madhya Pradesh is expected to hold elections around December this year.
