Descendant of the late Prime Minister Morarji Desai, Naishadh Desai has started a difficult electoral trip in Surat, resolved to fight a strong opponent in spite of financial difficulties. Before formally submitting his nomination on the Navsari seat, Desai, symbolising his resolve, shaved his head and dressed in Gandhian garb for a short Dandi Yatra.

From a family steeped in Congress leadership and activity comes Naishadh Desai. While his late uncle Shri Khandubhai Desai was a Union Cabinet Minister under Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Indira Gandhi, his father Shri Ishwarlal Gulabbhai Desai was a well-known Congress leader and independence fighter.

Even with his stellar resume, Naishadh Desai is having financial difficulties. His attempt at using a QR code to crowdfund his campaign only raised Rs 27000, underscoring the challenges grassroots politicians have in raising money for their political campaigns. Desai said that businesspeople are making little or no donations, which is making his financial situation worse.

Carrying an M.A. With an L.L.B. degree, Naishadh Desai is an advocate and has been a major leader in the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) since 2004.
