Morari Bapu, a well-known spiritual luminary and exponent of the Ram Charita Manas, demonstrated exemplary citizenship on Tuesday by voting in the Lok Sabha elections at a polling booth in his village of Talgajarda in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district.

Morari Bapu addressed media representatives after casting his ballot, reiterating his passionate call for widespread voter participation. He emphasised, “Today marks the festival of democracy across India, with polling taking place in Gujarat and various other states. As a conscientious citizen, I have discharged my sacred duty to cast my vote. I have previously implored my fellow citizens to do the same, and I reiterate my earnest appeal today and in the forthcoming phases of the Lok Sabha elections, urging all to partake and contribute towards shaping the destiny of our nation.”

With an uncompromising devotion to civic responsibility, Morari Bapu methodically planned his calendar for May 7, prioritising active involvement in the democratic process. This dedication remained unwavering even when he participated in the Ram Katha speech at Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, until May 5. It is worth noting that Morari Bapu usually delivers his speeches in Hindi at his engagements around India and the world, but in Gujarati at events in his home state.

Even at the Rudraprayag Katha, Morari Bapu fervently urged millions of voters to accept their electoral responsibilities with zest and strength. He emphasised the importance of voting not just as a fundamental right, but also as an essential component of nation-building, especially considering India’s renowned status as the world’s largest democracy.

Morari Bapu visited Rishikesh on May 6 before returning to Gujarat to exercise his franchise. Morari Bapu has a strong personal connection to Rishikesh because his grandpa, Sadaguru Tribhuvandas Ji’s younger brother, Swami Vishnudevanand Giri Ji, was the 6th Mahamandaleshwar of Kailash Ashram, one of the region’s oldest and most revered institutions.

Morari Bapu’s journey with the sacred passages of the Ramayana began as a young child. Morari Bapu, under the tutelage of his respected grandfather, Tribhuvandas Ji, sung five chaupais (quatrains) from the Ramayana every day as he walked to and from school in his native hamlet of Talgajarda.

By the age of 12, Bapu had memorised the entire Ram Charita Manas and began reciting the text at the age of 14.
