16th June 2023, Mumbai: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, in an address during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Dashabdhi block at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, called on healthcare professionals to prioritize improving public relations and enhancing health services for those in need.

Rao emphasized that strengthening public relations would play a crucial role in attracting public attention to the medical aid facilities provided by the public sector. This, in turn, would bolster the overall public health system, leading to better healthcare outcomes for the community. The Chief Minister proudly highlighted the success achieved in the state’s maternity wing over the past ten years since Telangana’s formation. Institutional deliveries witnessed a remarkable increase from a mere 30% to an impressive 70% during this period. This achievement was attributed to the introduction of initiatives such as the ‘KCR Kit,’ which encouraged institutional deliveries and reduced dependence on private sector maternity services. The shift towards government institutions has positively impacted economically weaker sections, who now have access to quality care.

Rao also shared the significant progress made in the health and medical care sector in Telangana. Each district headquarters now houses a medical college, reflecting the government’s commitment to expanding access to healthcare services across the state. This development has resulted in positive achievements and a drastic transformation in health and medical care. Regarding NIMS, the Chief Minister announced plans to attach a 2000-bed block to the renowned hospital, further enhancing its capacity to serve the community. NIMS has been recognized for its invaluable services to society, and the expansion will ensure even more individuals receive the critical healthcare they require.

During his address, Rao expressed his appreciation for the unwavering dedication and efforts of doctors and healthcare professionals, particularly during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Telangana Health Minister Hareesh Rao also highlighted the government’s achievements in healthcare and medical education under the leadership of Chief Minister KCR. Dr. Beerappa, the director of NIMS, provided detailed insights into the proposed block and the wide range of services it will offer. Prior to the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Chief Minister formally launched the concept of nutritional kits, emphasizing the importance of proper nutrition in supporting overall health.

The new block at NIMS, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1571 crores and spread across 32 acres, will feature 120 operation rooms, 1200 oxygen beds, and 500 ICU beds. Additionally, it will house 38 specialized modular operation theaters catering to 38 super-specialty departments. In a gesture symbolic of their commitment to the well-being of the community, the Chief Minister inaugurated the nutrition kit distribution program, which was implemented at a cost of Rs. 250 crore.

These developments in Telangana’s healthcare system, along with the focus on public relations and the expansion of NIMS, exemplify the government’s dedication to improving healthcare services and outcomes for the people. With the collaboration of medical professionals and the continued support of the community, the state is poised to achieve even greater milestones in providing accessible and high-quality healthcare to those in need.
