Adelaide strikers win by 9 wickets in hand

A match winning knock of 76 by the captain ensured that the Adelaide Strikers win another match on the ability of their top three. Along with Mathew Short making 76, Chris Lynn supported him by making a blitzing half century of 33 deliveries and stood till the end, seeing the game through. Mathew Short’s innings of 76 included 7 fours and 4 blazing sixes while Chris Lynn’s innings included 4 fours and two sixes. For the Scorchers, it was only Lance Morris who took a wicket of the opener D’arcy Short, but other than him no one else was able to get any breakthrough.

Toss won and chose to bowl

Adelaide strikers had luck in their favour as they won the toss and chose to bowl. The decision stood out to be a right one as the bowlers complemented well enough to the captain’s decision. None of the batters of the scorchers were able to stand at the crease for long and this meant that no batsman crossed the score of even forty, let alone the thought of hitting a  half century. Short himself started the innings on the right note as he proved his decision to be the correct one by sending off the Perth opener Whiteman on his first delivery and the second delivery of the innings and match. Then the script started to take place as the scorcher’s batters started to fall like nine pins. Lloyd Pape and David Payne took 2 wickets each for the strikers while captain Short, along with Thornton and Boyce took one a piece. Captain Hardie and wicket keeper Inglis made some crucial contributions but it only took them far enough to a respectful yet not threatening total of 153, which later proved to be too small.

Strikers batting

Strikers in innings needed only three of their batsman to play which had been the case for them in the whole tournament. This time Mathew Short ensured he remained till the end and he got a good support from Chris Lynn. But the innings started with a bang due to the hard hitting of D’arcy Short in the beginning. He blasted a four and three sixes which put the Scorchers on the backseat from the start only. From then on they were only chasing the game. In the end they won the match very comfortably.
