Sunil Jakhar's Letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Today, on Thursday, June 13, 2024, he also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the long-pending demand of the public to change the name of Adampur Airport in Jalandhar to Guru Ravidas Airport, whom he finds deeply inspiring in his life. In his letter, Jakhar congratulated Modi on his third term as Prime Minister.
"Your momentous third term in office as Prime Minister of India has infused new vigor into the people of the country, especially the constituents of Punjab, who view you as an embodiment of Viksit Bharat. On behalf of the people of Punjab, I congratulate you on this historic achievement," Jakhar said. "I take this opportunity to bring to your attention two issues that hold deep emotional and spiritual significance for the people. These issues also resonate with your dedication to society."
Jakhar emphasized, "Renaming Adampur Airport after the 15th-century spiritual leader Guru Ravidas, as you have already expressed during your recent visit to Punjab, will significantly uphold the ethos of spirituality that binds India's diversity. This renaming has been a longstanding demand from the people of Punjab." Jakhar also urged Modi to consider developing the area around the Guru Ravidas temple in Tughlakabad, Delhi, into a garden as it undergoes reconstruction. "This enhancement will increase the shrine's appeal without altering its layout, inspiring people from all corners to embrace the egalitarian teachings of the revered saint."
Modi's Expression of Support for Renaming Adampur Airport
On May 30, during one of his election rallies in Hoshiarpur, Modi expressed his wish for Adampur Airport to be named after Guru Ravidas, whom he considers a significant inspiration. Adampur Airport is located in Punjab's Doaba region, near Jalandhar. On March 10 of this year, Modi also virtually inaugurated the new terminal building of the airport.
