Mohammed Shami was born on 3 September 1990.He is an Indian international cricketer who serves as a right-arm fast or fast medium bowler, representing India in all formats. He has played for Bengal in domestic cricket and for four teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami bowls the ball off the seam and uses swing, including reverse swing, to move the ball both directions.

He has been reputed to have an edge in the death overs of a limited-overs innings and, in all formats, has been described as being at times “unplayable”. Shami finished as India’s leading wicket taker in the ICC World Cup 2023, besides being the fastest bowler to take 50 wickets in the 48 years history of Cricket World Cup spanning 13 editions. He is recipient of 2023 Arjuna Award for Cricket.

BJP may field him from Bengal

According to insiders, the BJP is thinking about nominating Bengali cricket player Mohammad Shami in the next Lok Sabha elections. Shami continues to play domestic cricket for the state of Bengal and represents the team in the Ranji Trophy. Sources said , Shami has received a message from the BJP leadership outlining the idea. The cricket player hasn’t decided yet, though.

Shami is recovering from his surgery

Shami is taking some time off at the moment to heal from a recent surgery. Following the pacer’s confirmation of his surgery, PM Modi wished him a speedy recovery. Since assisting India reach the final of the ODI World Cup by collecting 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20 in seven matches, Shami has not played cricket. PM Modi personally spoke with each player after Australia’s defeat in the World Cup finals, offering them consolation. He gave Mohammad Shami a hug and complimented him on his outstanding performance during the competition. The cricket team’s changing room footage went viral. He is all set to miss this year’s IPL due to his surgery.

Shami met Union Minister Amit Shah

Shami also met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In addition, Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had declared that a cricket stadium would be built in Shami’s hometown of Amroha.Top BJP sources claim that Shami has been suggested as a candidate for the West Bengal Lok Sabha elections, and talks over the proposal have been constructive. According to BJP internal debates, Shami’s candidacy can help the party win seats in Bengal that are controlled by minorities.

BJP insiders claim that Shami’s nomination from the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat, which has made headlines due to unrest in the Sandeshkhali village within its borders, is the main priority.
