New Delhi (India) October 8: The government's'swadeshi' effort against US tariff demands made Union Home Minister Amit Shah announce his new email address on Wednesday. It makes him the most recent minister to adopt Zoho. It is a homegrown software package.

He posted, "Hello everyone, I have switched to Zoho Mail. Kindly note the change in my email address. My new email address is amitshah.bjp@ http://zohomail.in. For future correspondence via mail, kindly use this address," on social media platform X.

The way Shah ended his message has attracted people. It is the same as US President Donald Trump.

Sridhar Vembu praises engineers behind Zoho’s success

Sridhar Vembu is the co-founder of Zoho. He expressed praise to Shah for using the in-house software platform.

He posted, “I dedicate this moment to our hard-working engineers who have toiled hard in Zoho for over 20 years. They all stayed in India and worked all these years because they believed. Their faith is vindicated."

Move aligns with government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ drive

According to sources, the action was taken as part of a larger initiative. It is to support local technology platforms and improve data privacy and control. India's leadership has been putting more emphasis on employing safe, domestic alternatives to foreign tech giants. They may be subject to personal data breaches.

Shah's action comes after other ministers have made similar changes. It includes Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of information technology. He declared last month that he would be switching to Zoho's office suite software.

For consumers who value data security and "Made in India" solutions, Zoho's local infrastructure and privacy commitment make it an appealing choice to the multinational companies.

Zoho’s rise as a global tech player from Chennai

Sridhar Vembu and Tony Thomas co-founded Zoho Mail. It is an email and productivity platform located in Chennai. It was introduced by Zoho Corporation in 1996. It has more than 130 million users worldwide. Zoho offers business products including Zoho CRM, Zoho Workplace, and Zoho Cliq. It has emerged as one of India's strongest software exports.

It also has robust spam filters, ad-free policy, privacy-first philosophy, and data servers situated in India. Zoho Mail is well-liked by businesses and the government.

Zoho just entered the messaging market with its Arattai app. It is an Indian instant messaging service that prioritizes confidentiality. It is also an alternative to WhatsApp. The business acknowledges testing end-to-end encryption for voice and video conversations. It is also assessing the functionality for chats.

Education Ministry, others adopt Zoho for official work

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demand for the adoption of domestic goods and services comes with the adoption of Zoho. The government is reviving its 'atmanirbhar' campaign. The action is taken to lessen reliance on foreign technology platforms. It is a result of trade pressures and a high 50% tariff on India.

A number of government agencies are already integrating Zoho Mail and its office suite. Additionally, the Education Ministry has directed officials to conduct official business using Zoho platforms rather than Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
