India's women's squash team won the Bronze medal in the Asian Games 2026 after losing 1-2 to Hong Kong in the semi-finals. Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna won their matches; veteran Joshna Chinappa lost the decider as Hong Kong took the title. Aichi-Nagoya: India's women’s squash team won a Bronze medal at the Asian Games 2026 after falling 1-2 to Hong Kong in a thrilling semifinal here on Thursday.
Anahat started strongly and won the first game of the match 11-9 when the score was 8-7 in the first one.
The Indian remained composed in the second one, which was 8-8 and then she scored three straight points to have 11-8 and a 2-0 lead in the match. Chan fought back in the third game as Anahat got lost a little bit and the Hong Kong player took an 8-4 lead and won 11-6. Anahat came in in the fourth game and had a 6-3 lead. She had three match points but Chan saved all three with some intelligent play to make it 10-10. After another match point went begging, Chan was awarded a stroke to force a decider.
India also levelled the semifinal through Tanvi Khanna, who produced a stunning comeback against Lee Ka Yi, who was 33 places above her, to win 3-1 (4-11, 13-11, 11-9, 13-11).
Tanvi lost the opening game 4-11 but responded strongly, winning the second 13-11. Then she won the third game 11-9 before holding her nerve in a dramatic fourth game to win 13-11.
The Indian was proactive in her shot selection and often tested Lee from the range.
On 11-11, Tanvi maintained her calm mind in extra time to close out the match and keep India’s hopes alive. The veteran Joshna Chinappa, however, failed to make the comeback and lost the final match to Ho Tze Lok 0-3 (4-11, 7-11, 9-11). The 40-year-old Indian battled hard particularly towards the end and saved five match points, but she could not match the speed of the world No. 39 Hong Kong player, who had taken the lead in the first two games. With the 2-1 win, Hong Kong advanced to the final and India finished with the Bronze medal in the women's team squash event.
