India to Try the No. 3 Spot in India 

Morkel said India could rotate its players like Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the key No. 3 spot. The idea is to find out the right solution in the long term as well as create some flexibility in the batting lineup. The upcoming ODIs were set to be used as a sort of experimental ground, which the coach told me would serve as the “testing ground for depth and getting a sense of how various players will perform under pressure in high-profile players’ time-dependent positions,” the player said. To Morkel, the team should diversify the ways they can combine, rather than lock into a certain batting structure for all combinations, especially in this series against Afghanistan.  

KL Rahul, Kishan and Jaiswal in Focus

KL Rahul, who has led the middle order mostly in recent years, could earn promotion. There is also a war of attrition between Ishan Kishan, the aggressive batting style. The role is also under consideration for a younger opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Pre-match training sessions suggested potential changes, too. Kishan was seen with wickets to hold while Rahul was out on the outfield to catch, indicating that India may choose to develop a mix in batting and wicketkeeping in India.

The emphasis, Morkel stressed, is on developing a tight and malleable team. The team also wants players to have opportunities in various roles so they are ready when international cricket challenges them in the future, he said. The coaching department has sights on not only short-term outcomes but about longer-term team makeup and stability as well, he added.  

Indication for Good Things with Young Fast Bowlers

Morkel also discussed the young fast bowlers Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar, who also had all of them ready to announce their ODI debuts. We’ve already got a lot talking about their confidence and enthusiasm in training time. According to him, both bowlers appeared to be relaxed in the squad atmosphere and exhibited no signs of stress. They had the training intensity and attitude that made the coaching staff want to call them a first-time player, according to their coach.  

Afghanistan Confident Ahead of Series

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi said his team are keen going into the series against India with ease. India is a strong contender, he conceded India as a formidable foe, but noted Afghanistan’s recent solid performance in ODI cricket. Shahidi said he believes his team is prepared to be in a head-to-head series and feels they can take on India if they play well, said he.
