A Rampur court on Thursday found seasoned Samajwadi Party veteran and former Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan guilty of using hate speech. According to news agency ANI, Khan and two other defendants were given a three-year prison term and a Rs. 2000 fine in the case. 

In 2019, Khan was accused of using hate speech after making remarks about Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Azam was released earlier this year after receiving temporary bail from the Supreme Court. Nearly 90 charges are pending against him, including one involving corruption and theft.
