New Delhi (India) December 24: On Wednesday, a powerful explosion shook Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, escalating anxieties with the ongoing violent situations in several areas of the country.

The blast as per the details was near the Moghbazar flyover, leaving the area in sheer terror and utter confusion as people of the locality came out to save the victims.

Explosion Rocks Busy Moghbazar Area

The blast occurred underneath the flying ramp area, which is usually very busy in the vicinity of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command.

Witnesses told that the explosive was levitated from the top of the flyover and exploded onto the ground as soon as it hit. And eyewitnesses also suggested that after the incident people who committed it swam off quickly.

Swift Response by the Authorities

One fatality was confirmed by the police at the scene. It is also reported that some others have been injured in the incident and taken to hospitals urgent for treatment. Emergency teams who arrived at the scene soon after the explosion, also spoke about rescue operations which are underway.

The blast allegedly took place when the market was full of people. The injured were sent to hospitals in ambulances, according to the reports.

Victim Identified as Local Factory Worker

Relatives of the victim identified the deceased as a man named Siam. Local family members and friends mentioned that Siam was working in a private factory and was just around the corner when the blast happened. His identification was the last to be confirmed by relatives.

After the event, police sealed off the spot as terror took over the neighborhood. The attackers took off right after they threw the bomb.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramna Division of Police Masud Alam stated, "The young man was seriously injured at that time. He died on the spot a short while later. He had come there to have tea. A bomb fell from above and hit his head. He died on the spot,” regarding the incident.

Nationwide Protests and Violence

This unfortunate event occurred when things were getting tense in the country due to the continuous protests following the killing of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi.

Inqilab Moncho is adamant that Hadi's murderers should be arrested before the 13th national election and the referendum that will take place in Bangladesh.

Hindu religious bodies and minority rights groups held a rally at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday, protesting the killing and associating it with what they consider a larger pattern of religious fanatics, attacks on the minorities, and lack of adequate authorities' reaction.
