28 June 2023, Mumbai: The makers of the acclaimed film ’72 Hoorain,’ which earned director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan the National Award for Best Direction in 2019, have strongly criticized the decision of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to reject the film’s trailer. Labelling the move as regressive, co-producer Ashoke Pandit expressed deep concern over the rejection, stating that it raises questions about creativity, freedom, and realistic filmmaking. The team is determined to contest this decision and is prepared to approach the high court if necessary. Additionally, they will be requesting intervention from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to scrutinize the authority of the CBFC in rejecting the trailer.

Chauhan, a two-time National Award winner, visibly expressed his dissatisfaction with the CBFC’s decision. He emphasized that the movie had already obtained a censor certificate and highlighted that the trailer accurately portrays the essence of the film. Chauhan questioned the basis on which the CBFC rejected the trailer, inviting audiences to watch the movie before drawing any conclusions. He reassured that the film presents factual content and does not target or offend any religion or religious sentiments.

Producer Gulab Singh Tanwar criticized the CBFC’s decision, considering it to be baseless. Tanwar expressed his discontent, noting the contradiction between the government’s recognition and honor bestowed upon ’72 Hoorain’ and the CBFC’s rejection of the trailer without providing clear reasons. He found this situation perplexing and fundamentally unfair.

’72 Hoorain’ is eagerly awaiting its theatrical release scheduled for July 7. Despite the CBFC’s rejection of the trailer, the film’s creators remain determined to present their work to audiences. With their sights set on legal recourse and seeking support from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the team aims to challenge the decision and shed light on the concerns surrounding creative expression and artistic freedom.
