Salman Khan's 'Tiger 3' Secures All 23 IMAX Theaters in India for Grand Diwali Release!

27 October 2023, Mumbai: Salman Khan’s highly anticipated film, ‘Tiger 3,’ is set to make a grand entrance this Diwali. In a surprising move, the action-packed thriller will secure all 23 IMAX theaters across India. This decision means that ‘Tiger 3’ will receive more IMAX releases than ‘The Marvels,’ which is scheduled to open on November 10. The film, starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Emraan Hashmi, is poised to dominate the Diwali 2023 release slot.

Bollywood’s Box Office Dominance

The choice to allocate all IMAX theaters in India to ‘Tiger 3’ reflects the growing prominence of Indian tentpole films over Hollywood blockbusters. Renowned Indian box office expert and journalist, Jatinder Singh, emphasized that Indian films have consistently outperformed many Hollywood big-budget productions. He even cited the example of the 1998 release of ‘Titanic,’ which was eclipsed at the box office by Karan Johar’s ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji.

Diwali Box Office Extravaganza for Tiger 3

‘Tiger 3’ is expected to make a significant impact on Diwali, a national holiday in India. This release strategy means that it will replace a Hollywood movie, as IMAX theaters increasingly turn to Bollywood and Tollywood (Telugu-language) features, which have consistently outperformed Hollywood blockbusters in the Indian market. Bollywood films like ‘Pathaan’ and Tollywood productions like ‘Jawan’ have surpassed the box office earnings of Hollywood blockbusters in India. Conversely, Indian films have also achieved international success, such as Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ in the Chinese box office and ‘RRR’s’ revenue in Western and Japanese markets.

‘Tiger 3’ Overview

‘Tiger 3’ is scheduled for release on November 10 and will be available in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages. This film, directed by Maneesh Sharma, marks the third installment in the ‘Tiger’ franchise. Emraan Hashmi plays the role of the antagonist. ‘Tiger 3’ continues the narrative of ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017), ‘War’ (2019), and ‘Pathaan’ (2023), further expanding the YRF Spy Universe franchise. The movie is also rumored to feature a cameo appearance by Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan,’ who was last seen alongside Salman Khan’s ‘Tiger’ in Siddharth Anand’s blockbuster ‘Pathaan.’
