15th May 2023,Mumbai: The Kerala Story by Adah Sharma surpasses Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi to become the highest grossing female-focused film in Bollywood in just 10 days.

The Kerala Story has only been in theatres for ten days, yet already it’s breaking several records left, right, and centre. With the exception of Pathaan, the challenge today is to surpass several all-time records in addition to 2023’s releases. One such record was held by Alia Bhatt’s twin releases, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Raazi, which both took the top spots for highest grossing female-centric movies. Well, not any more. Adah Sharma is currently in first place after The Kerala Story surpassed the lifetime totals of both of these films in just ten days.

Here Is the list of Top-10 highest grossing female-centric films:

The Kerala Story – 136 crores*

Gangubai Kathiawadi – 129.10 crores

Raazi – 124 crores

Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi – 92.19 crores

Veere Di Wedding – 83 crores

The Dirty Picture – 80 crores

Neerja – 75.65 crores

Dear Zindagi – 68 crores

Mary Kom – 64 crores

Queen – 61 crores

The Kerala Story just beat out Gangubai Kathiawadi, which was immediately at the top, but what’s amazing is that there is so much more available than what the movie will likely generate in the days and weeks to come. Only three female-focused films have reached the century mark, and none of them are in the 200 Crore Club. The Kerala Story is expected to become a double-century achievement, therefore history is about to be written. When that occurs, it would also go up against the record for the greatest male superstar-driven movie ever, which would be enormous.

Some people mistakenly believe that Tanu Weds Manu Returns [152 crores] and Stree [130 crores] are also female-centric movies, but both featured Madhavan in an equal role to Kangana Ranaut (and also in the title role) while in Stree, Rajkummar Rao received significantly more screen time than Shraddha Kapoor, who was important to the plot but wasn’t quite the only person who led the show. Although The Kerala Story would go beyond both of these films, mentioning them here was necessary to put things in perspective.
