India Launches Emergency Cell Broadcast Alert System Nationwide

DoT, MHA and NDMA launch initiative

An ‘Extremely Serious Alert’ warning sound went off on telephones around the nation on Saturday, as the Centre unveiled a broadcast system for timely communication throughout times of emergencies and disasters. 

It said, “India, launches Cell Broadcast using indigenous technology, for instant disaster alerting service for its citizens. Alert citizens, safe nation. No action is required by the public upon receipt of this message. This is a test message. - Government of India.”

System to Warn During Natural Disasters

Cell broadcast notifications are a significant update to sms-based alerts.
