BNP Landslide Victory: Tarique Rahman Set to Rule Bangladesh

New Delhi (India) February 13:Tarique Rahman will be the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh , replacing the interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus that was brought into place following Sheikh Hasina's exile to India after the student-led uprising.
The election was perceived as a direct contest between the BNP and its former ally, Jamaat-e-Islami, in the absence of ousted premier Sheikh Hasina’s now disbanded Awami League.

BNP Sweeps 213 Seats

The counting has been done in 297 of 300 parliamentary constituencies where polls were conducted on February 12, BNP won 213 and Jamaat-led coalition acquired 76 seats reported in Bangladesh dailies. Results have been withheld for two constituencies—Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4, on legal grounds, EC said.

Yunus Era Ends as Rahman Eyes PM Position

The BNP, backed by Tarique Rahman, is about to deliver a landslide victory in the 13th national parliamentary elections, with various forecasts showing it comfortably moving beyond the simple majority of 150 seats.
The BNP had previously said that if it won the election, its chairman and former premier, Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman, would be the next prime minister of Bangladesh.
