Zardari Claims India Is Preparing for War, Calls for Return to Talks

New Delhi (India) March 3:Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari, on Monday, charged India with preparing for another war and appealed to New Delhi to desist from what he described as a war drama and to come back to the negotiating table.
Zardari said, "India’s leaders say they are preparing for another war. As a lifelong advocate of regional peace, I would not recommend it.”
"My message to them (India) is to move away from the war theatre to meaningful negotiation tables, because that is the only path for regional security," he added.

Blames Taliban on Afghan Terror Groups

Zardari also spoke about the West, referring to a recent UN report that expressed concern about the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan .
"This report warns that any other country could fall victim to another catastrophic attack if the issue is ignored," he said.
Zardari blamed the Taliban regime in Afghanistan for letting down the commitments to the Doha agreement, which included not allowing militant groups to operate from Afghan soil.

He asked Kabul to get rid of such groups and not to permit Afghanistan to be a playground for the schemes of others.
The disagreement reportedly started when Afghanistan's Taliban rulers launched retaliatory strikes on Pakistani installations. Kabul stated that their action was in response to Pakistan targeting militant hideouts inside Afghan territory.

2025 Operation Sindoor Standoff

In his speech, Zardari not only tried to show Pakistan as a nuclear power responsible for its actions but also warned India of the cost of a conflict.
Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state and understands the weight of that responsibility. At the same time, we are a state that defends itself when required,” he said.

Pakistan as Responsible Nuclear Power

India and Pakistan were locked in a four day military standoff in May 2025 after India carried out a military strike under 'Operation Sindoor' targeting terror sites and camps in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
The Pakistani military responded with drone strikes, after which India imposed a blackout along the International Border. India launched Operation Sindoor as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. The Indian government has blamed a Pakistan, based LeT offshoot group, The Resistant Front, for the attack that killed 26 tourists.
