A bus carrying passengers collided with a truck on Wednesday morning which resulted in the death of 12 people and left 25 injured in the Balijan area near Dergaon in Golaghat. “The bus carrying a team was going towards Tilinga Mandir from the Kamarbandha area of Golaghat district. The bus collided with a truck in the Balijan area and the truck was coming in the opposite direction from Jorhat’s side. 10 bodies were recovered from the site and sent to Dergaon CHC. 27 injured persons were referred to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital where two people succumbed to their injuries,” said Rajen Singh, Superintendent of Police of Golaghat district. Many residents promptly responded by rushing to the scene and actively participating in rescue operations. “Our investigation is on and we will take action as per law,” Rajen Singh said.
Police said the accident took place when the bus was on the way to Tinsukia’s Tilinga Mandir. The bus was carrying 45 passengers. It collided with a truck in Dergaon. The injured passengers were rushed to the Jorhat Medical College. They recovered the bodies of the 14 passengers who died on the spot and sent them for post-mortem examinations. Police are investigating the matter further.

One has to take extra careful measures while driving during these hours. It is advised to be extra cautious and responsible while driving late at night and early morning as even a small mistake can turn fatal.
