Top Generals Die Alongside Khamenei in Airstrike

Iran's judiciary has confirmed the deaths of two top military leaders alongside Khamenei in the airstrike: the chief of the Revolutionary Guards, General Mohammad Pakpour, and another top security adviser, Ali Shamkhani.
This news comes after a series of tweets by US President Donald Trump in which he announced the death of Khamenei following the airstrikes on Tehran and other strategic locations in the Islamic Republic.

Khamenei's Cryptic X Post

A social media post on Khamenei's X account said, "In the name of Allah, the Merciful. Among the believers are men who are true to what they promised to Allah, so among them are those who love him, and among them are those who wait and do not change things in exchange. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Among the believers are men who have been true to what they pledged to Allah; among them is he who has fulfilled his vow, and among them is he who awaits, and they have not altered in the least.”
Iran initially refuted the news but later on Sunday morning (IST) confirmed the death. The country is now deeply uncertain as it struggles to handle the dual challenges of foreign attacks and a leadership change.

Trump's Post Celebrate Khamenei's Demise

Beforehand, Trump had announced on Truth Social that the military had killed Khamenei.
On social media platform X, Trump wrote, "Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead. This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty thugs.”

Iran's Longest Ruler

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was one of the most prominent leaders in the Middle East, being the Supreme Leader of Iran from 1989 until his passing on February 28, 2026. He climbed the ladder of power when he was 50 years old and for almost four decades, he was the country's most influential political and religious figure.
At the time of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Khamenei was among the close associates of Ruhollah Khomeini, the cleric who led the revolution and became the first Supreme Leader of Iran . Khamenei was appointed to succeed Khomeini after the latter's death in 1989.
