Trump Posts Truth Social Warning on March 26

On March 26, Donald Trump said that at Iran's request he had extended the deadline for Tehran to reach an agreement with Washington or face more attacks. However, the Islamic Republic has dismissed a US proposal to end the conflict, calling it "one sided and unfair".
Trump said Iran had requested a 7-day no attack period in which American strikes mainly directed at its energy infrastructure would be stopped. The President said he had decided to increase the time to 10 days, and so the deadline was April 6.

"As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well," the post by Trump said.

FM Araghchi Rejects Unreasonable US Plan

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking on Saturday, said that Iran was still willing to pursue diplomatic talks even though it had rejected the "unreasonable" 15-point plan proposed by the Trump administration.
"What we care about are the terms of a conclusive and lasting END to the illegal war that is imposed on us,” Araghchi said in a post on social media platform X.
These statements are made following rumours of a deadlock in the Pakistan-facilitated talks between Iran and the USA, which Islamabad has been mediating since the lead-up to tensions in the region. 

No Mention of Missing US Pilot in Iran

There was also no announcement about the search for a US pilot who, it is thought, has ejected over Iran after an F-15 fighter jet crashed in the country. Iran has acknowledged the downing, the first one of its type since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran.
Trump's new 48-hour ultimatum is a sort of re-iterating of an earlier deadline and also his way of keeping the pressure on Tehran to either lift the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz or face the military consequences.
