Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off this important step. The gas connection is safe and budget-friendly. Families no longer need to carry heavy cylinders.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 10: For the first time, 101 families in Guwahati received piped gas directly to their kitchens. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off this important step. The gas connection is safe and budget-friendly. Families no longer need to carry heavy cylinders. It is a dream come true for many. This effort is led by Purba Bharati Gas Pvt Ltd, which is supported by Assam Gas Company, Oil India, and GAIL.
CNG Station Opened in Silchar for Cleaner Travel
Silchar got its first-ever CNG station, which is the first in the Barak Valley. The chief minister also said more such stations will be built in Hailakandi and Sribhumi. CNG is good for the environment and makes travel cheaper. Silchar residents are hopeful this will bring more green vehicles to their city. The opening of the CNG station also gives jobs and boosts the local economy.
Piped Gas to Reach More Nearby Areas Soon
The project will soon reach Baihata Chariali, Hajo, Sualkuchi, and Rangiya — places around Guwahati. These are part of Kamrup district. Work has already started. It means more families will soon enjoy the same ease of cooking. The chief minister said that Assam’s National Gas Grid will ensure enough supply of natural gas. It is a big move towards better living.
A Strong Team Behind the Change
Purba Bharati Gas Pvt Ltd is handling this big job. It is a joint effort by three major companies: Assam Gas, GAIL, and Oil India. They are covering many districts — Kamrup, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi. More than 30,000 families have already registered. Out of these, over 6,000 families now have working gas connections. The speed and care with which the pipes were installed have impressed everyone.
Big Plans to Make Assam Greener
The chief minister shared that Assam now has 23 CNG stations. But that’s just the start. More are planned. Also, new roads and bridges are being built near Guwahati. These will make travel easier and faster for the nearby towns. That will help spread this clean gas to more homes. With better roads, piped gas can be shared with thousands of people more quickly.
