25 July 2023, Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reached out to Opposition leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, seeking their cooperation in discussing the Manipur issue in Parliament. In identical letters, Shah emphasized the readiness of the Narendra Modi-led government to address the matter and called for bipartisan efforts to resolve the challenges faced by Manipur. The letters were shared on Shah’s official Twitter account, expressing hope for cooperation from all parties.

Progress and Challenges in Manipur Under BJP Rule

Shah highlighted that in the last six years of BJP rule in Manipur, the region witnessed significant progress in peace and development. However, some court decisions and incidents led to violence in Manipur in early May. The Home Minister urged all parties to rise above political lines and work together towards finding a just and permanent solution for the pressing issues faced by the country.

Congress Issues Whip, INDIA MPs Attend Meeting on Manipur Situation

Meanwhile, the Congress has issued a whip for its members in Lok Sabha to attend a parliamentary office meeting to discuss crucial matters. The meeting was attended by INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) MPs, indicating their active participation in addressing the Manipur situation.

Ethnic Violence Toll: Over 160 Dead in Manipur Clashes

Since the outbreak of ethnic violence on May 3, more than 160 people have lost their lives, and many others have been injured in Manipur. The violence began during a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ held in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The Meiteis, who form the majority in Manipur’s population, reside in the Imphal valley, while the tribals, including Nagas and Kukis, constitute 40% and live mainly in the hill districts.

The Home Minister’s call for cooperation aims to address the ongoing violence and unrest in Manipur and find lasting solutions for the region’s progress and harmony.
