Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay delivered his first Independence Day speech from Fort St George in Chennai, greeting Gen Z and warning forces working against his government.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay gave his first Independence Day speech at Fort St George in Chennai on Saturday. In his first speech, Vijay started with a special greeting for Gen Z and Tamil people around the world.

“Vanakkam” was his message to the younger generation as he addressed the gathering at the flag-hoisting ceremony. Actor Trisha Krishnan, Vijay’s parents SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar were also present.

Vijay's 'Vanakkam' message to Gen Z

During his first Independence Day speech as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay acknowledged the Gen Z audience.As he addressed Tamil people all over the world he said, “To all my Tamil relatives around the world, Gen Z friends, my Vanakkam to all.”

His reference to Gen Z quickly stood out as one of the key moments of his Independence Day address.

Vijay warns those plotting against his government.

Vijay, in a strong political message, warned forces that he claimed were working against his government.

Without naming anyone, the Tamil Nadu CM said attempts to create problems for his government would be defeated. He made it clear that his administration would continue to work despite opposition or purported attempts to weaken his government.Vijay also repeated his resolve to eradicate corruption in Tamil Nadu.

'Eliminating corruption is like achieving freedom'

Vijay linked the fight against corruption with the idea of freedom during his speech.He said his government is taking steps to stop government revenue from reaching private individuals and that action is being taken against corruption across departments.

The chief minister also promised transparent and good governance and also said public welfare would continue to be the top priority of his government’s approach from now on.

Vijay says 'all lives are born equal'.

Vijay said that the principles of his government were based on the belief that “all lives are born equal.”He said his government will concentrate on honest and transparent governance and no place for bribery, corruption or drug culture.

Vijay put women’s safety and social justice as top priorities for his administration.“There must never be any compromise in public life. The welfare of the people is the most important thing,” he said.

TVK government to oppose policies against Tamil Nadu

Vijay also spoke about his government's relationship with the Union government.

He said the Tamil Nadu government will continue to cooperate with the Centre in administrative matters and welfare schemes. But he said his government would oppose decisions that, according to him, go against Tamil Nadu’s rights and interests.

Vijay said the TVK government would stand firm on issues concerning the state’s rights and policies affecting Tamil Nadu.

The speech marked Vijay's first Independence Day address as Tamil Nadu chief minister.Vijay entered politics through the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and later took charge as chief minister after his party's victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

His Independence Day speech combined messages of governance, anti-corruption, social justice and state rights, and his direct greeting to Gen Z brought a youthful tone to the address.The speech also spoke to Vijay’s effort to establish his government as transparent, people-centered and committed to protecting Tamil Nadu’s interests.
